Bat Houses in the Cayman Islands
For Earth Day this year Cayman Wildlife Connection will be providing two large double Cayman-Islands design bat houses and the National Trust for the Cayman Islands is arranging for school children to paint them before we have them mounted at the school grounds. Our local utility company,Caribbean Utilities Co Ltd, generously supports the program by donating used utility poles and doing the installations with their equipment. I will be publishing the newly updated and professionally-drawn building plans for this unique and successful bat house design during Earth Week as well.
Currently we have 82 of these bat houses successfully inhabited by Velvety Free-tailed Bats (Molossus molossus) with over 11,000 bats living in them.
